A memory of Lyndon that I will always cherish was the way he looked, walking away to catch the plane to Washington after his defeat [in the 1941 Senate campaign] had been announced. I still see him striding off, looking very jaunty, and putting extra verve into his step. His head was high, and he was stepping along real spryly.
